LaSalle Lake opener: Some details & concession update
LaSalle Lake reopens Sunday. My Wednesday column in the Sun-Times was on it. Prospects are for the usual good multi-species fishing.
The big change, for the good, is that the cooling lake south of Seneca, Ill. will be open daily 6 a.m. to sunset, even during March, a change from other years.
Also, concessionaire Ed Cavanawgh got back to me this morning and said vending machines (chips, candy, pop and bait) will be going for opening days. Later this month, the water should be connected and the full concession stand be able to go.
When open, there will be coffee, donuts and such for breakfast, then later in the day hot dogs, hamburgers and brats. Ashton should again be there the most.
Cavanawgh is considering some options for shore fishermen to get around, including possibly bike rental or a golf cart to transport fishermen to the far ends of LaSalle. I love both ideas.
The phone is (815) 795-7000. There is also a facebook page just started at LaSalle Lake Concession Stand.
